Margaret E. Essien
Remote Sensing AssociateI’m Margaret Efia Essien, a tech-savvy and detail-oriented environmental management practitioner with over 3 years of hands-on experience applying GIS, remote sensing, and data science in environmental planning, land cover analysis, and sustainable development initiatives.
My work bridges the gap between geospatial technology and climate-smart solutions, with a focus on land cover change analysis, carbon sequestration mapping, community land-use planning, and spatial data management.
Currently pursuing an MPhil in Geospatial Science at SD Dombo University, my thesis investigates the impact of land cover changes on carbon sequestration in the Anhwiaso East Forest Reserve. I am passionate about using spatial data, climate science, and participatory mapping tools to inform better decision-making for climate adaptation and ecosystem conservation.
I have contributed to high-impact projects with organisations like Rainforest Alliance, Harmattan Geospatial Ltd., and GIZ, developing land cover maps, field data systems, and community engagement frameworks across Ghana.
🔍 Key Interests: Carbon monitoring, ecosystem services, climate resilience, environmental data analysis, GIS training, forest landscape restoration, community-based planning.
